Tess Talmage DVM

Dr. Tess Talmage, DVM is originally from East Hampton, New York, and brings a combination of extensive equine experience, enthusiasm, and unmistakable personality to Jacksonville Equine Associates.

Dr. Talmage earned her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Vermont before attending St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical year at Texas A&M University, gaining experience across a wide variety of veterinary disciplines before pursuing her career in equine medicine.

Following veterinary school, Dr. Talmage completed an equine internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala, where she further developed her skills in equine medicine, diagnostics, emergency care, and the management of complex cases. She is also a certified Veterinary First Responder and is currently completing her certification in veterinary acupuncture, expanding her ability to incorporate complementary therapies into individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.

Dr. Talmage is committed to continuing her professional development and has a long-term goal of becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP).

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Talmage's love of animals extends to a menagerie of her own. Her crew includes her Grenada rescue dog, Soubise; cats Lil HP, Mike Tyson, and Fish; her spider, Janice; five goats, Beavis, Butthead, Pots, Ghost, and Snicklefritz; and her horses, Rooster, Ziggy, and Duckie—along with her flamboyant turkey, Sir Deli BoarsHead, and a flock of chickens. Her sister Ruby, affectionately known as “Weebs,” is also her frequent partner in adventure.

When she isn't caring for patients or her own collection of animals, Dr. Talmage loves being outdoors. Her interests include scuba diving, hiking, running, horseback riding, and spending time at the beach. She also dreams of creating her own small-scale organic farm someday—and perhaps even turning a cargo ship into an ark along the way.

Dr. Talmage's broad veterinary experience, commitment to continued learning, and genuine enthusiasm for animals of all shapes and sizes make her a valued part of the Jacksonville Equine Associates team.
